At Lindsay Cottages

Lindsay Cottages is my favorite retreat spot.  It’s only a 15 minute walk from my office and its lovely gardens readily nurture meditation and connecting my heart level with the Creator.   This morning I went there. My emotional and spiritual tank gauges read “hungry.”  I prayerfully meditated on the Christmas stories from the gospels and felt drawn to Mary and her wonder of bearing the Christ child. Then I meandered into the epistles extolling our place of triumph with Jesus. Gradually the following emerged….

Borne Again Jesus

Like Mary, I am startled to hear that I am highly favored by God Almighty…
I am puzzled how His purpose in me can be accomplished
in my inadequacies…
Can it be that “Christ in you, the hope of glory” can flourish in this humble, virgin being…
How can it be?
“Then the Holy spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you…”
Conception!
Dare I believe?
Dare I carry HIM?
Dare I birth HIM?
Can I draw faith from the evidence of “Even Elizabeth … in her old age… in her barrenness… carries a child… nothing is impossible with God.”
I too feel old…. and barren… and empty…
Dare I believe in the conception of Jesus within?
There is only a word… no enlargement yet… no quickening yet.
Can I say with Mary, “be it unto me… according to your Word…”
…even though I do not understand?
This Christmas
Dare I be born again?
Dare I let Jesus be borne again
In all the humility of my stable?
If not….
barrenness lingers.
If so…
Pregnant potential….
Until….
Humble shepherds from every tribe…
And  wise men from every nation…
Bow  before the throne…
With me,
Worshiping the Lamb who was slain!
