Last week was Watoto Church’s BIG PARTY! We are celebrating 30 years of rapid growth at Watoto Church and 20 years of orphan care!

Sadly we missed the multi-thousand worship events together last weekend, but we were able to party at the Tuesday neighborhood celebration organized by 4 cell groups including ours. Colorful invitations were personally given to our friendly neighbors as well as passed to folks whom we had never met living in walled compounds. Phil and I took chairs, a mat, lots of popcorn and ten books to the nearby empty lot, which had just been slashed (cleaned). As only one child was there then, I sat on the mat and began reading to him. He soaked it up and others started to join on first one mat and then another, until nearly a hundred children clustered around me in the shade. Reading thru the entire BIG PICTURE BIBLE without a break was inspiring even to me! The attentiveness and good behavior of the children was truly remarkable as they politely traded and looked at the books together.

When the adults gathered, we sang, danced, played games (musical chairs) and shared testimonies before Phil presented the gospel message. Sodas, samosas, and biscuits were joyfully consumed by all! What a witness of God’s love and a celebration for our neighborhood community!
